Difficulty resettling at night
« on: February 09, 2007, 15:41:31 pm »
I've read some really great advice on this forum but would really appreciate some specific advice for my 10 week old son that keeps waking throughout the night.

I'm been sleep training my son for the past two weeks as I have was having real problems with his daytime naps. Through swaddling and ssh patting he now settles well for the most part in the day. However the night time has become a nightmare. I was consistently having a block of 4/5 hours each night but this has stopped over the last week and I'm now exhausted.

His bedtime routine starts at 7 and he is asleep by 8. I have tried the dream feed at 10:30 but he woke at 1am anyway for a feed so I stopped this. So now he wakes at around 1 for a feed and I find it really hard to settle him back. This can take up to two hours. Is this because the first block of sleep is too long? Should I persist with the dream feed?

He then goes till 5:30 when he is fed again. He is then awake for the day at 6:30.

If anyone could provide any advice it would be much appreciated. He's a big baby (9lb 11oz birth weight) and a number of people have encouraged to give him formula late at night to take him through to the morning. He is currently breastfed.

Thanks

Could you post your day time sch as that would help?  He could still need two night feeds at this age as many bf babies do.

I am having the same problem, so I'm anxious to see what advice you get!  :)  I can get DD to eat just fine in the middle of the night, but she won't settle back down and go to sleep afterward...  :-\

btrsweet- you may want to post your sch as well and if you want more people to be able to view it you can post a new topic.
