just switched to 4 hr EASY can this be reason for night wakings?
« on: February 12, 2007, 14:28:41 pm »
I just switched my 15 wk DD to a 4 hr EASY this past weekend. He seemed to transition well. He had good naps, etc. My only question is that is has been harder to get him to sleep and multiple night wakings. It doesn't not seem to be hunger. Can switching to a new schedule be the reason? He hasn't hit any milestones and it doesn't seem to be a growth spurt.

E-7:30
A-8-9:30
S-9:30-11:30

E-11:30
A-12:00-1:30
S-1:30-3:30

E-3:30
A-4-5:30
S-5:30-6:15-6:30

E-7
A-bath, massage, sing a few songs
S-8-8:15

hi

why exactly did you change his routine for 4 hrs easy? was he really ready? he's a bit young IMO but well, all babies are different. but with changing the routine one feed dissapears so maybe, just maybe, he IS hungry? are you BFing?

I changed his schedule partly because he didn't seem to be eating as well after I picked him up from the sitter's. His awake times were becoming longer and his night wakings were erratic. I do breastfeed and he still wakes up for the 4 am feed. I am going to call the sitter, as we speak, to see how he is doing with her.

well, actually one wake up to feed at his age [especially if you're BFing] is nothing strange or a subject to be worried about. many BFed babies still need one extra nighttime feed at his age and much longer too [my dd surely did ;) ].

I'd try 3,5hrs EASY rather than 4 hrs at 15 weeks. is he really ready for 2 hrs A time? maybe he's a bit overtired with long A times and therefore waking up at night more than usual?
so how is he doing when at babysitter's?

Last night, was a struggle to get him to bed. I do think he is overtired and not sure how to correct. I let him nap for 50 minutes during the "catnap"time to see if that would help. My babysitter doesn't quite understand EASY. She is 65 and I feel that she thinks her way is right. My husband and I have both tried explaining to her what works for our DS. She says he takes "long" naps, but I'm not sure. I also have told her that DS is not an independent sleeper due to accidental parenting. He needs to be swaddled and patted in order to sleep. She says sometimes he just falls asleep on his own and she doesn't have to swaddle him. I also tried explaining his what his cues where for being tired. She had told my husband "you can't make a baby sleep when he doesn't want to". I'm not sure what to do about her. It frustrates me sometimes because I worked so hard to get DS to where he is. He is such an easygoing baby. As far as night wakings, he woke at 12:30 and 3:00. The 12:30 I believe is a habit, so I am going to try W2S. This worked with extending his naps. He then ate at 3.

I am crossing my fingers, DS has only woken up once each night for the past two nights!! He also didn't fight when put to bed. I hope that the first few nights when we transitioned him to a 4 hr EASY and had difficulties; were just him getting used to the change. :-)
