« on: February 14, 2007, 11:31:41 am »
I am trying to implement E.A.S.Y with my 5 weeks old, however I am getting nowhere, everyday is different, she slept 6 hours in total yesterday, (1 hour at night) she wont' sleep unless on my chest, she cries constantly and i can;t identify her cues at all, she had a feed at 6 am this morning, no activity as she fell asleep on the bottle (3oz) cried until 9.00am unless i held her, gave her another feed, she took 3oz at 9am changed her and top and tailed her, she fell asleep at 10am put her down, she woke at 10.30 crying, tried to wind her, and resettle would not stop crying even when i held her tried to wind her again, by this time it is 11.15 so i tried to feed her again, she took 2oz and fell asleep again tried everything to wake her just put her down and waiting for her to realise she is in her basket!!! please help me get on track I just dont know what to do.

Is it possible for her to have reflux?

but first, please post how your usual day looks like, just as Yaya has suggested.

As I mentioned earlier every day is different,

Eat 6am 3oz
A none fell asleep straight away, woke within 30 minutes
S 6.30as above would not settle back down
Y yeah right!!!

crying until next feed kept dropping off when held soon as down crying agai

E 9.00 3oz had to split feed as fell asleep on bottle
A change nappy and top and tail, (fairly content)
S 10am -1030

crying again same as above tried to sh pat stopped crying, once down cried again!

E 11.15am 2oz
A fell asleep again at 11.40
S 30 mins

ok then looked around a while, then rooting and crying around 12.30 tried again to settle no joy!

E 1300 1oz
A fell asleep again
S at moment

I really feel at the end of my tether and I know I should be stronger, I am so tired and full of cold ~( feel really sorry for myself also) I cant get any perspective at all, she must be overtired as she has had on sleep I know some babies may not be as sleepy but surely this cant be right, she had 1 hour last night! also as soon as she wakes she is miserable and cries!

I have looked at reflux but not sure, she is not very sickly not sure what other signs to look for, I just wish she would have a good nap then i would probably be able to determine why she is so unsettled!

Please help!!!

WELL YES, SHE SOUNDS VERY OVERTIRED THEREOFE UNHAPPY AND NOT ABLE TO EVEN FEED PROPERLY... imho...

[sorry for caps lock above...]

anyway, when you say she wakes up after 30 minutes that's definitely overtiredness. BUT when you say she only had 1 hour of sleep last night waht do you mean by that? what's your nap/sleep routine? do you swaddle her? and use pat/shush every time you try to put her down?

first, I think you have to break the cycle of eating and falling asleep when eating. and I know you know that too. try keeping her awake when being fed, change her diaper, maybe walk around your house with her, then go to her room, close the curtains, swaddle her, try some pat/shush and as soon as she starts dropping off- don't leave, she may need you at 20 or 30 minute mark to hold her down through the jolt and help her sleep longer. here are some links for you:

hugs to you and try to relax a bit. I know it sounds impossible, but maybe there is someone who could take care of her while you go out- shopping, for a walk, to do your hair etc. anything to make you feel better about yourself.

keep us posted

Thanks, she is still asleep at the moment, so I am going to leave her until she has had about two hours, what do you think? then try to stary afresh! last night my hubby looked after her while i caught up on some sleep, so i am not sure what he did with her, he said she did not cry much, and napped fairly ok, yesterday was all over the show too, she woke up for food around 9pm so we fed her, then left her until 12am i did consider waking her earlier to try a dream feed, but she never took much at her last feed, although at 12am never took much there either only 1oz. we then swaddled her and settled her about 1am she took around 30 minutes to settle properly, then i heard her again at 2.30 and she started to cry so fed her and tried to settle again then it was a case of up and down until 5.30-6am fed her, i then did give in and hold her while she slept (i know i should not have done!) put her down about 7.30 she fussed for 30 mins then woke crying again, i have posted about the sh pat on another section, as my hubby does not understand how it is better than rocing her in her moses basket, will she not get accustomed to this also , and being held until she starts to drift, i would be greatful if you could explain the diff, cheers, !
Also when she is put down to sleep, do i time her naps from after 20 mins settling time, or from when she is put down, i would also appreciate a little help on how i should play the rest of the evening, i fed her earlier at 3.30pm she was asleep through it i then changed her but still did not wake her she was completely out of it her legs were so floppy we have just been a walk and she is moaning a little now so i might try a bath shortly although she is a misery through that she expects to be fed every time she is awake for more than 2 mins, no happy valentines for us 2night.!
