you guys are great. i really thought i had the only kid who hates driving in the car! it makes me laugh when i hear people taking their kids for a drive to get them to sleep. usually, i won't go anywhere unless absolutely necessary or if DH is with us. you all have given me more confidence to take him out.  thanks again!!

LOL, don't you just LOVE the people who say, "but my child always falls asleep in the car, doesn't everyone's?"

We went for a 5.5 hr drive (each way) over Thanksgiving. DS didn't sleep more than 10 min, each direction! Wasn't really unhappy... just WOULDN'T SLEEP.

DS wasn't too happy about the car, when he was younger. It seemed to change about the time he became social - smiling at strangers in the store, etc. I think he started learning that, if he wanted to see new stuff & new people, he had to tolerate the car rides. I try to make sure we don't take too many trips that involve no fun for him.

(Not sure that made sense...)

today we're taking a "car ride" to Little Gym" so hopefully he'll forgive me! it is our first time at Little Gym and its probably going to interfere w/ his nap. oh well, it is a double whammy but we're going to try and have some fun anyway! wish us luck.... ;)

hi everyone,

the outing was successful w/ no crying! it took us about 15 minutes to get to Little Gym. I tried to sing loudly and talk and I'm sure I looked pretty silly doing it. I think what helped though was that I clipped on a little toy to his car seat that he could touch, etc. He has just started being interested in toys a little. Little Gym was very cute but I was paranoid about the germs. Guess I need to get over that! It was great being around other moms and babies. Cade loved looking at all the other babies. He was very tired afterwards and fell right asleep in his carseat on the way home. i was even able to take him out of the seat asleep and lay him down in his crib where he slept for almost 2 hours. hopefully, this is a good sign. today we are going to run a quick errand so hopefully things will go as well!

thanks for all your support! Heather

We went through a carseat screaming phase at about the same age - it lasted 4-6 weeks.  PPs all had good suggestions.  I spent alot of time spinning the radio dial looking for music she liked.  That's how I discovered she loved the Beach Boys (not exactly on our playlist) - Kokomo was a huge hit.  For a long time, it would calm her instantly when nothing else would.  FIL didn't believe me until we took a road trip with him, and she started screaming an hour from home.  We listened to Kokomo on repeat the rest of the way.
