Help to sleep without help. How I start?
« on: February 12, 2007, 18:33:04 pm »
Hello
I have a little girl 5 months old and I just find the "Tracy method" But I have problems with my baby naps.
She was accustomed to  get sleep by walking, singing to sleep and at the end in the breast.
I already try the pick-up method but I feel that is getting worst, she always sleep in her bed but now she cries when she realizes that I put her in there. Then I pick up her few times (crying) but she start to crying more and more shouting . Now she just jump to cry shouting.
I tried by just stand and quiet and it is the same that walking or singing. Then I need to get out from the bedroom otherwise she doesn't stop cry. Then she finish sleepeng in my shoulder (the same...)
I Really think I need other way to help her to calm down.
I don't know how to start...
Please any suggestion...?

I appologize, English is not my firts language, so some times I write incorrectly

Hi,

I'm no expert but I would probably try putting her in there when its not bedtime with a few toys so she starts to like her bed. I would ALWAYS respond to her cries immediately so you don't break the trust with her.

Next thing is to keep doing pick up put down (PU/PD), but as a last resort. Try to soothe her in her bed first by patting her bottom and saying shush in her ear quietly and rhythmically, try a firm hand on her back or tummy, and whispering sweet nothings, just comfort her etc then use PU/PD. It will probably take 3 or 4 days to change but then It shouldn't take more than 20 mins for them to get to sleep on their own.

Hope that is a starting point.

Lou

It might be a good idea to check out the 'props' section too. 8)

thanks!
But she doesn't hate her bed... The problem is that she doesn't know how to sleep by herself I think. If I put her in her bed she stays, sometimes she plays and even when she wakes up she stays there playing or just quiet till I pick her up.
I tryed to put her and distract her when she starts to cry, then she play around few minutes. But she cryies again :'(
I can't do the pick up sistem She cryes too much. We try already 3 days, but I feel is the same than the first day. I feel the same like just putting my baby in the bed and let her cry...
Maybe I'm not doing it correctly...

Well...
I just find the wrong book! I put her in a correct EASY I thing, but still "sleeping" is a really nightmare! Getting worse...
I finally try the pacifier, but I don't like, she didn't use to like it too much so I rarely gived it to her. I know is from one help to another...From breast to pacifier...
Please anyone have any idea to make a "strategy" to make her sleep by herself?
She's so confused now!!! and me too!!
PD about props where and what is?
