toddler and baby
« on: February 21, 2007, 19:58:31 pm »
Any advice on getting baby on routine with an active 22 month old at home as well?  We had no problem using the EASY routine with our first but there were no other distractions.  Now with our second, who is a touchy baby, finding it impossible to get the time required to get her to sleep.  The slightest noise etc jolts her awake and so of course with a toddler in the house it is never quiet except when the toddler is napping.  I also don't have the time to spend alone with the baby to get her to sleep as it always takes longer then 20 min.  I have even tried locking my toddler out of the room but she just stands at the door and cries or calls for me if I'm gone for too long.   HELP!!

I'm having the same issues with my 7 month old..I also have a 2.5 year old toddler...who likes to wake her brother up.  He only sleeps for 20mins at a time in the day and is awake every 2 hours at night.

I have a great bath routine for them both with helps him get sleepy....and as far as in the night - I either rock him or feed him to sleep as I am soooooo tired...I keep saying to myself that we must get him our of the bed and be more firm, but every night I'm just knacketred.

What have you tired so far?  Is your baby on solids yet? have you tired a comforter or music?

that was definitely my world!!

there are lots of ideas here:

the 2 things that helped me the most were to get help - someone to play w/ the toddler in the morning whenever i could, and to really work on sleep training #2 during the afternoon nap (and i worked very hard to get it so the afternoon nap was at the same time for both of them).

Yup, mine is 17mth apart, so I hear you. Have you checked the 2 under 2 board? Lots of tips there.

What helps me a lot was had someone to care for my todller for 3 days straight while I got #2 onto a routine, then used DVDs and distractions.
#1 loves helping, so I let him play quietly nearby and then ask him to go and get/or put something away on the far side of the house at the 'crucial' point for #2. I usually manage to catch him on the way out of the room.
#2 has supersonic ears too, so I have music playing constantly to drown out the noise
