Could my 10 month old be ready for one nap already?
« on: March 05, 2007, 16:02:00 pm »
In the last few days, DD seems to want her morning nap later and later.  And she is resisting her second nap any earlier than 4hrs A time.  But this is pushing bed time later too.

Our day is starting to look like this

7.30 E (Bottle)
8.30 Breakfast
10:45 S
11.45 Bottle (snack)
1pm Lunch
3.45pm S (she hardly ever takes more than 45 mins here)
4.30 Bottle (snack)
5.30 Dinnerime
8 - 8.30pm  She is really resisting bedtime and can easily handle 4 hrs A
Sleep all night

I've really had to try and force these naps so that doesn't have too late a bedtime.  Last night she woke twice in the night but went back down ok.  She wasn't hungry.

We've been quite happy on 2 naps for over 3 months now and sleeping well at night.  The only thing that has changed is that she is resisting going down for naps now.

Any help appreciated!

It is quiet young for 1 nap could you try a short say 20-30min nap around 9.30am so you can get a long afternoon nap around 1pm

Thanks Natasha, cutting back on morning nap is a good thought.  I might have probs getting her down before 10ish but I can still try cutting it back duration.

Yeah I don't think she is ready for one nap yet but she's getting to that inbetweeny stage, ugh!  lol.

Good night last night, no NW.

Hi--first time I've posted on here. But related to Lizziebeth's issue. Have been using BW since DS was 4 mos old with amazing success (I've given more books to friends, family...). Up until 2-4 weeks ago, my DS was like BW clockwork: waking at 6:45-7A, 1st nap ~9-11 and 2nd nap at 1-3, sleep by 7:30P.

Over the last month he has learned to crawl, pull up, much more mobile and he is now 9 mos. old. Over that same timeframe, his naps have started to change: now napping around 10 or 11 and only for an hr. and then the 2nd nap at 2 or 3, usually for only 45 mins. Generally wakes happy from naps unless they are shorter than 45 mins. which rarely happens. Still in crib by 7P and asleep by 7:15P w/no fussing. He seems to be changing things up w/regard to naps and not sure where this falls in the "parent-should-lead" model; also am afraid that he'll keep pushing his naps back (this nap change seems to have happened pretty quickly) and not sure what I should do in that case.

Swanney, sounds to me like he is just naturally cutting down on his daytime sleep as he gets older to allow him to keep that great chunk of night sleep.

As long as he's happy on this amount of naps and sleeping well at night, I wouldn't see any reason to worry about it.

Think eventually he will be moving to one nap too though, like my LO.
