Moving to a big boy bed.... any experiences to share?
« on: February 27, 2007, 21:51:06 pm »
I'm working on getting my 19 month into his toddler bed.  He's not great at night to begin with, but we're still hoping to make the move.

For two weeks we set up the bed and kept it in the living room.

For the past week it has been in his room.

For the past few days we have been putting his cabbage patch asleep in it when ds1 goes down for his naps and night sleep.

Hoping this weekend we'll start naps in the bed.

Does this sound like I'm on the right track?

TIA

I haven't looked at the other links, but it sounds like you are on the right track. WE moved DS to a new room with the big bed to make room for baby.  We set up Ds's room way before we put him in it. We let him hang out in there during the day and put his stuffed animals to bed in the big bed for several weeks before we switched him. Then, on the first night, he was so excited to be able to sleep in there. He got up a ton of times that first night and the first couple of weeks were rough, but now he sleeps through the night in there and was napping well until a couple of months ago when he dropped his nap!  HTH!  Erin

Thank you both!   :)

Erin, I am not envious.  I dread the day he decides to drop his nap.  I tell dp that that's when I go back to work.  LOL

We started with putting Harvey in there for naps and then after 1 week we tried in the bed and he was happy to make the change.  HE was 16 months at tghe time.

And on Sunday we put Theo in Harvey's old big boy bed (carbed) for his nap and he went donw withing 3 mins. he then had naps in there on Monday and Tuesday and went easily on both days.  So, last night we decided to see how he would feel about a night time sleep in the new bed (never slept in the room before either because he is in our room, so everything is totally new to him).  He went in the bed awake and went down for the night within minutes.
I do have to say that he actually had a better sleep than in his cot. He has been trying to wake at 4am every morning this past week whilst in his cot and slept straight through until 5:45am (usual waking time).

I should add that both our boys are always great at falling asleep in strange places so long as we keep their night time routine the same as if we were at home.

Good luck.
Rhian

Thanks for the words Rhian.  Unfortunately, Owen is not a great sleeper.  Maybe this will be the turning point we need.  LOL  I don't have my hopes up though.

Two success stories!  YEAH!!
