Routines/Nap Times/HELP NEEDED
« on: February 27, 2007, 20:31:05 pm »
Basically, since last week we have been trying to establish a routine with my daughter Ava who is 24 weeks old (I know its late but better late than never).  We are trying to follow a 4 hour routine but she really struggles after 3 hours max. Should we start off on a 3 hour routine first or stick to a 4 hour?

Also, if we go out anywhere in the car or pram she has a habit of falling asleep.  Do I still put her down for her naps at the same time even if she has fallen asleep in the car?

Today for example she was up at 8am and then we went food shopping and she fell asleep at 10.  We tried to wake her up but couldnt really as we were driving etc.  She slept for around 30mins in total.  She usually goes for a nap then at 12, I put her down but it did take her nearly 40mins to fall asleep.  Should I not have put her down?

Any help greatly recieved.

Many thanks

Samantha

hi mrswilliams- i know that this sounds like a pain in the ass but if you are just trying to establish a routine for you ds you need to try and stay at home with her for a week or so so that you can stick to your routine more easily. if she adapts to it really well you might not need to do it for this long.

as all us E.A.S.Y mums will tell you its easier to schedule yur life around the routine. for example my 12 week old ds is on 3 hour easy. he has a feed at 7, 10, 1. i nap with him after his 7 feed. shower and get ready after his 10 feed ( while he naps) then go out and do what ever i need to do after his 1 feed then i make dinner after his 4 feed. its not always possible to do this but once you get used to it its alot easier to do. also if your lo is on 4 hour easy you have longer between feeds.

if your lo wont go longer than 3 hours try increasing te time between feeds by 15 minute increments. ie feed at 7.15 for a few days (try and put her off with a pacifier) then when she is happy with this increase it to 7.30 etc. it may be easier for her this way as a 24 week old should be on 4 hour easy.

also are you going to be starting solids soon?

Here is a link to some sample routines for 3-6 month olds.

https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=10385.0

As a guideline, it is not recommended to introduce solid foods until your lo is six months old.  If you are thinking of introducing solids, I would discuss this with your Ped first.

Hope the routines are of some assistance.
