Those of you with two kids....
« on: March 03, 2007, 02:52:41 am »
Did your second child go to one nap a lot younger than your first???

My son isn't a toddler yet, but I am hoping and praying he handles a good transition to one nap a day!  The two naps is so inconvenient with my daughter's activities/playdates/school and everyone I talk to says that they transitioned to one nap at 12 months.  Just wondering if that held true for you.

lol, I hope so too!!! I am dreading the 2-1 nap transition, all the horrible nightwakings and 5am starts, I'd hate to go through it again  :(.

I am not if it will happen here though, Jasmine only dropped her catnap like 1 week ago.... so I think she will probably hold onto 2 naps until she is 18months (lol) but I hear you, it is very inconvenient for us as well. Basically we don't leave the house until after 2.30pm. If we go out in the morning we have to be back within 1hr cause then the toddler starts her nap at 12ish  ::)

Liv transitioned between 10 1/2 - 11mo and was much happier on one nap (she was spirited though)  whereas alex was angel/textbook and did not go to 1 nap until 17 mo i think

he did not go to 1 nap sooner - it was around 13-14ish months, right around when jaina did.  he did go to NO nap a lot sooner (as in, an entire year!).   :'(

Both mine went to one nap at 11 months which is early all around.  It does make life so much easier though with only one nap.

No, dd2 did not go to one nap any earlier.  She has been a better sleeper all round.  But I understand completely what you're saying about two naps interfering with #1's activities.  I *thought* dd2 was ready for one nap at 1yo, but she just got more and more overtired, so we went back to two, but I really restricted the first nap (put her down at 9am, and woke her at 9.45am no matter how long she had been asleep for).  The transition to one nap is going so well with her (sometimes I find her having that first nap is quite handy since it's quite early, then we can go out, and stay out a bit longer, rather than having to be back by 12 noon).  However she has regularly had to miss the first nap, and somehow has coped so well.  We have never made her do that every day, otherwise it severely backfired!

Anyway, that got a bit long!

Well i doŽn't have 2 LO, but my DS did transition quite well to a 1nap routine, when he was 11 MO, so i guess it depends on the baby. And i didn't even do the 2 week transition thing, i went cold turkey from one day to another, and it all just fitted perfectly.... but like i said, depends on the baby.

I actually found that we had a short first nap (45mins)  & a long 2nd nap (2.5hours) for quite some time so the first nap could take place in the stroller or before we went out & then I cut the 1stnap back to 15mins before we dropped it & actually HATED the dropping as ds#2 needed his 1 nap at 11ish & that was right when all our activities were on... so I guess I was the opposite.
Although if you compare ds#1 went to 1 nap  at 21months (I forced it before ds#2 was born) & ds#2 at 14mo
