Having trouble with eating schedule for 11.5 month old
« on: March 11, 2007, 22:39:37 pm »
So, lately it has been like this.

7:15 bottle
7:45 teething rusk on teh way to daycare for breakfast (not happy about this part)
9:30 Morning tea - fruit finger food
11:30 lunch - sandwhich, yoghurt, tin of fruit
2:30 Afternoon tea - fruit finger food
4ish Bottle (doesn't drink all this one, probably doesn't need it but don't know what else to give)
6:30 dinner - puree and finger food, meat and vegies
7:15 bedtime bottle

in between plenty of diluted juice whenever she wants it (won't drink water at all). She has JUST in the last few days started taking this with a sippy lid instead of a bottle teat (we use the avent ones)

So, I decided to switch bottle and breakfast - ate a whole weetbix with milk and honey.  Tried her milk in her avent bottle with sippy lid - no way jose.  put the milk in a bottle, still not interested.

So, should I be worried that she won't take the morning bottle - I don't care if we drop it if her diet is OK.  And also, what about the afternoon bottle?  Should I replace that with something, maybe yoghurt?

I will definitely be keeping the bedtime bottle - I have to hold that one while she fiddles with her lovie, otherwise seh wont drink it, but with a good dinner, and a whole bottle, we are having success with fixing our early wakings, so I am not messing with that.

Now that she is almost a year (how exciting!), you needed worry all that much about milk intake dropping, they say around 16 oz of milk a day at a year. Some include other diary products in getting that quota if their lo's are not big milk drinkers, so cheese, yoghurt etc can count as well. Milk on cereal counts as well (sorry for stating the obvious!).

Sounds like she has a good diet overall though!!

Thanks.  Do you think that

enough milk to make a mushy weetbix, some cheese on her sandwhich, a yoghurt and a bottle are enough to add to 16oz? Her bedtime bottle is about 7-8oz.  Should I make that 4pm snack a yoghurt also?

I would be happy enough if Riley ate that in a day. How many oz is the yoghurt? This is a good website now that you are entering toddler hood http://www.keepkidshealthy.com/toddler/feeding_your_toddler.html
Toddler portions of food are quite small, I always tend to forget that and stress unneccessarily sometimes, so it's handy to have a guide like this to check into.

Thanks for the link.  Her yoghurts are 100g (in Aus, this is half a normal tub of yoghurt).  Not sure what that equates to though.

Yeah, I find her portions small too....but that is OK as long as she sleeps through the night, and she must have had a growth spurt recently, she has chubbed up a bit (hopefully the next one will make her taller LOL).

i will check out that site, thanks for helping.  Oh, and sometimes she doesnt' eat all that we offer, but sometimes she does.  I just keep offering.  The dr said to me once when she was ill and barely eating or drinking - You cannot force a child to eat - you can only keep offering so that it is available when they DO want to eat....
