yes he is already holding his headup he is even teething already and trying his best to pull himself up out of his bath tub and car seats. i cant even leave him in his carseat unstrapped and go a foot away cause he will get out of it. he has a jhonny jumppro and he loves it along with his exersaucer and he can also hold toys. he is very intelegent for his age. the dietitian clinc hear is the one that said i can start at 3.5 months with solids. they even gave me a papper that says when is baby ready for solids? doubles birth weight and weighs at least 13 pounds. seems hungry after 8 to 10 breastfeedings a day or drinks 32 ounces of formula a day. lifts and supports head. i also have been reading several things on it and it seems that he very ready for them.

I agree with everyone above.  Solids foods before six months is unnecessary.  It is obvious from your baby's size that he is getting enough nutrients in his formula.  By waiting until he is six months old he will be able to accept more types of foods and have an easier time eating and digesting them.  In the meantime it would be a great idea to check some books on baby's nutrition.  Annabel Karmel's books are a great resource, but the library in your town would have lots of different ones that are just as good.

I received this info from my lactation consultant she assures me this is the most recent info. I am Canadian (not sure if that really matters) She was also very adamant about not introducing solids until 6 months because of a babies immature digestive system and the increased likelyhood of food allergies. I caught a lot of flack for holding out until 6 months (mostly from older ladies), but really my DD was fine and I was certain that she was really ready at 6 months

Average Amounts and Numbers of Feedings for Bottle Fed Infants in 24 hrs

Age               No. Of Feeding in 24 hrs     Amt @ each feed
Birth - 1 wk      6 -10                             1- 3 oz (30 -90 ml)
1 wk - 1 mo      7- 8                              2 - 4 oz
1 - 3 mo          5-7                                4 - 6 oz
3- 6 mo           4 -5                               6 - 7 oz
6 - 9 mo          3 - 4                              6 - 8 oz
9 - 12 mo           3                                 7- 8 oz

Hope this helps:) There is a tonne more info in the book she gave me. I'd be more than happy to help if I can. Good Luck

jumping in real quick to clarify...

Since she's on WIC, she doesn't have any control over what brand/type of formula... unless her pediatrician specifies for medical reasons. It's a government program that basically pays for the formula (and later, also cereal & juice). They do have trained nutrition counselors. FF babies (according to them) can start solids at 4 mo if they meet other criteria. BF babies, 6mos usually.

When we had our 4mo checkup, our ped assumed we'd already started solids. (We hadn't, wanting to get her okay, first.)  I'm not condoning starting early, but I'm also not condemning it... we started at 4 mo, and that's what was right for us.
