16 MONTHS - EARLY MORNING WAKINGS -TIRED ALL DAY
« on: March 15, 2007, 06:44:15 am »
Hi,

For the last 2 weeks my Son is waking up in the morning around 5:00am, tired and cranky.
His bed-time now is 7 pm, and he sleeps thru the night.

He's been thru a lot this month:

We moved from the US to the Middle-East 4 weeks ago, so..new house, new faces,....and he joined a small loving day care (10 days ago) where the all 4 kids go to sleep together around 1:00pm.

Since we moved I sleep in his room to prevent anxiety :( :(

He started walking this week too... :)

He doesn't sleep well in the day-care, 1-1.5 hours in average, comes back home tired, then we have to put him down at 7pm.

I don't know what to do. I tried W2S at 4:45 for 3-4 days. It worked only once (he slept until 6:40), but am i expecting too much from him?
Will it all be gone by itself?

Thanks much for your advise!

Ossi

Ossi, hi & welcome to the boards!  ;D

Do you think there is any way at all he can be put down at day care at no later than 12pm. Its just that if he is up at 5am and he is then awake for 8hrs till nap time, that is an extremely long stretch for a 16mo and is adding to the overtiredness he is now experiencing. It might lead to more irratic night sleep. I believe the fact that he is taking a short nap is also to do with the timing of the nap & the fact that he is overtired.

What do you do when he wakes that early? Do you feed him or pick him up? If he ok to be left in cot or does he cry?

I agree. I will ask to put him down for the nap earlier.

When he wakes up in the mornings early, he cries. for the last 3 days I tried PUT_DOWN for 20-30 minutes and then nursed him. He never wakes up and play in his cot.

Thanks, Ossi

That's ok Ossi, Isabella used to love playing in cot but how bangs on the wall or starts shouting out until someone comes to get her  ::). Its ideal that you hold off until their "usual b/f time" so its good that you don't feed him straight away. Keep trying in the meantime to let him know in the early hrs of the morning that its still night time. Waking up early can be developmental but I think in your case it might be the change in housing as well as the later nap

I really think the earlier nap will help him.
Good luck & let me know how its going.
