Fitful sleeper
« on: March 21, 2007, 08:00:56 am »
Hi there,

My LO has started napping badly the past 3 weeks. Some day he will sleep longer than 45minutes on his own, other days not.

The problem now though is that after he wakes for his 3 am feed he doesn't fall back into a deep sleep. He sleeps fitfully and grunts and keeps me awake because i worry about how he will be the next day.

Our routine is all over the show due to his naps, but we wake about 630, feed at 7 and then bed again at 730 due to the fact that he is so tired.
Over the weekend he actually managed an hour and a half and then slept 2 hours after, which tells me he can do it, but i think due to the bad day sleep he might not be sleeping well at night, after say 2 - 3 am. He goes to bed at 7 pm, and falls asleep independently, which is great, but on bad days with only short naps, he will stir every 45 minutes.
We have started to DF him, hoping to extend his sleep and help him rest more, but i think it only wakes him up, so perhaps we should rather wait for him to wake by himself and feed him then?

How can I help him sleep better between 3-6? I usually feed him , pat him on the back, give him a kiss and put him back into bed, which used to work. I don't want to lose that, but if I can do something that will make him sleep better in the early am hours, I will.

Thank you!!!

You are right about the daytime sleep. If it's bad, night sleep will be bad.  I wouldd work on getting a really good day time sch down and you should see night time be a little less restless.
Hope that helps
