10 mo losing weight
« on: April 23, 2007, 13:31:08 pm »
Hi

OUr 10mo dd is a great little baby and has always been content and a good sleeper.  Recently she has started to wake in the night for milk as she is hungry.  We are going with the flow, but took her to get weighed last week and she is losing weight.  basically, she weighs less now than she did 3 months ago.

Here is our routine:

7   Wake up and bottle [4-5oz]
8   Breakfast of weetabix and fruit with about 2oz milk to drink
9   Nap for about 2 hours
12 Lunch of protein, potato/pasta, veg and pudding of fruit/yoghurt
1   Nap for about 2 hours
3-4 Bottle of about 7oz
5   Dinner of cauli cheese or something similar
6.30 Bottle of between 3-7oz
7  Bed
11 DF of 7oz

The HV has recommended that I need to get her weight up.  She has suggested increasing her milk intake at feeds[but we can't do this as she is already offered an unlimited volume, and when she has had enough, that's it!] and increasing her volume of solids at each solid feed [again we offer her as much as she likes but can't get more into her].  She has suggested that I drop her 2oz milk at breakfast in the hope that she will be hungrier for more solids.

I feel as though I am trying to stuff a very content baby full of food that she doesn't want, but am terrified of not following this advice.

Any suggestions??

Thanks

Christie

okay, i think the food issue might be separate here.

i think she is actually waking in the middle of the night because she needs less daysleep and more A time.  i think her routine needs a tweak.

the healthcare person is right though, you want those calories in her day.  it is possible that she is taking food in the middle of the night because it is calming to her.

the skinniness or losing weight could be happening due to mobility.  my dd thinned out when she got more mobile...is your lo crawling?

Hi Samijoe

I think you are right about the daytime versus nightime sleep - over the past few days, I am limiting her morning sleep to see if this helps, although so far things remain the same. Milk could be calming her although she is never really this type of baby, and she downs the entire bottle like a fiend when you finally offer it!

Re crawling, she started crawling about a month ago and goes like the clappers so I imagine this to be true.  But would this mean that she would really lose so much? She is not really skinny, in fact she is pretty robust, fitting into clothes 12-18mo and feels much heavier to us ???
