When will solids stop bothering him?
« on: March 25, 2007, 17:45:32 pm »
I started to wean my 5 mo this week.  He seems fine with baby rice but everything else seems to upset his digestion (I have only tried apple and pear so far though).  Should I just stick to rice or am I going to have to go through the tummy upsets at some stage, so it may as well be now?

Personally I would just stick with rice for now. Many peds don't recommend even rice till about 6 months, so there is definately no hurry. Also, the tummy upsets should not occur with introduction of foods; if they do it usually means they are having a reaction or are not ready. HTH

Definitely agree with PP. The tummy can mature a lot in a month.

Curious as to why you stated weaning him.

And by weaning you mean, like I believe in UK they said and BW book, that you start solids, right? Or you mean like in US that you wean from breastfeeding?
Anyway I would stick for little while to rice. You have lots of time to introduce other foods.
With my DS I fed him rice for a month :)

Thanks for the advice, will stick with rice for the next few weeks then re-try the fruit. It just seems to give him bad wind (like breastmilk used to when he was born!)

I started to wean now under the advice of a health visitor because he had begun to wake in the night again, wasn't gaining weight, was going less and less time between feeds, and was fussing after feeds but not interested in having any more breastmilk.
