today was different...outta no where!

Okay so with DS - food was/is food...always wants it and LOTS of it...from the first time he latched...

Now DD has been a great eater and has nursed really well (since secs old! ;D), but today...well it was weird to be honest.

She fed in the night (around 3am) we just can't seem to lose it...and she nursed for close to half an hour...so first thing this morning when she kinda mucked with her BF I just thought okay she's not hungry enough...or she drained really quick...She ate her solids yummy no prob....her next bf she refused....

So I thought okay...no solids lunch today....I offered her to BF instead and she did a half hearted job...went down for her nap and slept great...hmmmm ???

Woke up nursed half heartedly, played great, had a catnap woke for dinner and again gobbled her solids...so then I'm thinking, okay she's on strike...wants her solids...but.....

For her winddown bf (always done this....nurse...diaper....bed) she ate and ate and ate! WHAT ???

Should I be concerned? Is this a modified strike? Do I cut her back to no solids and get the BF back on schedule? Or do I need her to do this a few days before I change anything...We're JUST getting her sleep back on track and I know, I know things change, but I want to nip this in the bud if possible!

Thanks gals...any insight appreciated?

~Marie

I think just as babies have growth spurts they can sometimes have periods where enthusiasm wanes. Especially at that age where life is getting interesting and they want to get back to it. Sleepy nursing is more appealing as their engines are less revved and they don't feel they are missing out. Is a new skill imminent? Or if you've had a growth spurt recently she may not have to feed for long as your supply has been boosted? Or could it be a new spurt of feeding efficiency?

I remember Sam refused a couple of mornings on waking at about that age and it frightened the life out of me but it was only a couple of days.

I wouldn't panic just yet. The main thing is she nursed well during the 24hr period. Just stay low-key when she does refuse as I'm sure you are.

You could think about reducing solids and see what happens. Or have a go and cutting the length of that 3am feed to put the calories back in the day.

How was her night?

thanks emma! I appreciate you getting back to me...I think she's on the verge of actually crawling...not just rolling and scooting....possibly pulling herself up...(she grabs onto the bars of the crib now)

She nursed not too bad, not with her usual gusto, but decently....And your right...maybe it's just that she's getting older...hmmmm

I'll give it today, maybe tomorrow and then see if I need to cut down her solids...

Thanks again Marie
