Waking up at 5-530 the last 3 mornings why???
« on: April 06, 2007, 12:14:21 pm »
My 21 mo old lo has been sleeping through since 9 months of age and only waking early with teething or colds or if he soaked through his diaper.  3 weeks ago he had a cast put on b/c he broke his leg after a fall and was still sleeping normally but since it came off a few days ago he has been waking early.  There have been no other changes to our routine so I don't know if this too will pass and how to deal with the early waking now.  Any advice?

This was his routine before

630-7 wake and milk
8 breakfast
930 snack
1145 lunch
1215 nap (usually 1.5-2hrs)
230 snack
530 supper
740 in bed asleep by 8

now we are putting him to bed earlier d/t early wakeups 720 and he is asleep w/i 10-15min and usually has been waking b/w 5-530.  I have been moving his nap to 1130 to help but he is still only taking 1.5-2hrs.  Any suggestions?

It could be developmental. Some have solved the EW by leaving the nap where is was and same for the bedtime and the wake up time went back to normal hour. Of course this could backfire and could cause overtiredness but it depends on how much you think you can push your lo.

We recently had our clocks go back an hour and I've had to push Isabella's nap & bedtime to a new hour. She was still waking up at 5.30am for about 3 days but on the 4th day it changed back to her previous wake up time (which was 6ish).

You can also do it in increments.

Hi Layla,

So I kept the same bedtime and nap. Still taking 2hr nap but no change in early wakeup.  Last night in bed by 745 (a bit later than normal) fell asleep by 815 then up at 551.

I really hope this will get better.

Sorry Sabine - try earlier bedtime 15-20 mins for about 4 days see if anything improves. Also when he wakes are you able to leave him there or does he cry out for someone to get him. Do you feed him 1st thing. If so, wait until his normal b/f time to avoid his stomach being used to food so early in the morning

If he is not crying, leave him there until the desired w/u time. If he is crying, try wi/wo until the desired w/u time. Here's the link https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=63896.0

Tell him its still night time and leave (and proceed with wi/wo).

Could he be teething???

Maybe...he has a bum rash usually goes with teeth but haven't seen any yet.
I will try the earlier bedtime to see how it goes.
Thanks,

Sabine
