When we were going through the 2-1 nap transition, we had a couple weeks where DD took really long naps and I was always worried about if and when I should wake her. However, at the time she was 15 months and seemed to do okay with a shorter A time (sometimes as little as 3.5 hrs.) between waking from her nap and bedtime. By the time she was about 16 1/2 months, though, she really needed about 5 hours to go down easily at bedtime. I've never really been one to want to wake DD from her nap, although I've done it occasionally. I guess I figure that if she's still sleeping, she must need the sleep (but then again, she's never been a fantastic napper
). You might just have to do some trial and error about how long is too long (or late) for a nap. I would think that 3 hours would probably be the max though at this age. Chances are once he's gotten used to the 1 nap, it'll end up being more like 2 hours instead of the 3, although I wish we got 3 hour naps here!!!
We always do lunch here (about 11:15 or 11:30) before nap but a lot of people have had luck splitting lunch in half --- one part before the nap and one part after. Maybe doing lunch around 11:00 and nap around 11:45 or so? I know it's SO hard to do much in the mornings though (groups, etc.) with lunch and naps at that time. We have that issue too, and so on some days the nap just ends up being a bit later.
Glad to hear that you had some success with taking him out of his room right away. Hope things continue to improve!
