Hello
Occassionally my ds (7months) will wake up as early as 5:30 instead of 7am and I can't get him to get back to sleep. This then throws our whole day off of his 4 hr EASY. We've struggled for a long time with 45 min naps and within the last 2 weeks he's just starting to get the hang of 2 hr naps (thank GOD!!). What should I do when he starts his day off so early? his nap times are normally 9 /9:30 (for up to 2 hrs) and 1:30 (up to 2 hrs) and I'm trying to cut out the cat nap unless he really needs it.He goes to bed between 7 and 7:30.
I don't want to keep him up until his normal first nap time because then he's just unbearable. Should I just go with the flow and 'start over' the next day?

sorry..one more thing
is trying to drop the cat nap contributing to this? I've only just recently (this past week) tried to eliminate it. If so...when do you know it would be time to drop the cat nap?

thanks

if the early wakings started when you started to drop the catnap then it's most likely he's overtired- this is a really common cause of early wakings. When we dropped the catnap I had to put lo to bed early for weeks- some days as early as 6pm (usual time 7pm)- until I had gradually stretched all her A times long enough so that she could last until usual bedtime. You will need to stretch all his A times across the day so that the pm nap becomes later in the day, so he can last till bedtime. This will need to be done gradually to prevent the overtiredness so early bedtimes are the way to go. THey don't tend to cause early wakings- ds should tack the lost catnap sleep onto his night sleep so sleep till his usual wake up time.
hope this makes sense
