How can you get your child to scoop from a spoon?
« on: April 28, 2007, 02:46:08 am »
My 16 month old is good at using utensils when I hand them to her full of food.  When she tries to scoop it up herself, she can't do it.  Any tips on the best way to teach it?

FInd a spoon that isn't too too shallow and get either a plate with a lit or a bowl thatisn't too deep.

Theo has used his own fork and spoon since 12 months because he just wanted to try and seemed to pick it up pretty easily. But I am not sure if it is down to the spoons and bowls or not.  But i know he does do better with a shallow bowl, a plate with a lip and a spoon with a bit of depth to it.

Put your childs hand on spoon and your hand over his and then guide to his mouth. After many meals he'll get it. It'll be messy on the way.
