8 month old suddenly fighting naps -pls help!
« on: May 07, 2007, 02:26:55 am »
Hi everyone,

My lo is going to be 8 months next week - up until 3 days ago she was on a perfect EASY schedule, settling down very easily for her 2 naps during the day and sleeping 12-13 hours at night with a DF at 10-10:30. Then all of a sudden she's fighting her naps...we do the same wind-down - story, swaddle (with one arm out), saying good night to things, 1 minute of lullaby - usually she'll start sucking her thumb and we can put her in her crib and she'll go right to sleep. Now she arches her back trying to get away from me, cries...I've tried to put her in the crib at that time thinking she wants to settle and she rolls over, more cries...it has taken up to 30 minutes to finally settle her...sucking her thumb to sleep. The morning nap is easier (this morning it still took 20 minutes) but the past few days she'll skip the afternoon nap altogether!!

Is this normal??  Luckily it hasn't affected her night time sleep...we've been putting her to bed 30 min - 1 hour earlier when she skipped her afternoon nap. But she can't forever be missing naps like this!!  Do I need to start with PU/PD again?  Please help!!!

Here's a typical day:

8:00 - wake up & bf
9:00 - breakfast, cereal (3 tbsp)
10:30 - 1st nap (1-1.5 hr)
12:00 - bf
1:00 - lunch, veggies (5 tbsp)
3:00 - 2nd nap (1-1.5 hr)
4:00 - bf
5:00-5:30 - dinner, cereal & veggies (5 tbsp total)
6:30 - bath, massage, story, etc.
7:00 - bf
7:30 - sleep
10:30 - df

Thanks for your thoughts!!!
Jen

sounds like she might need more A time. Try putting her down 15 -20 mins later and see  if that makes a difference.
