Is she ready for 1 nap?
« on: May 06, 2007, 22:02:17 pm »
my 12.5 month old DD had been an ok sleeper until recently.
She won't settle down for 2nd nap no matter how long I try WI/WO during nap time.
I shorten the 1st nap to 45 minutes, but she still refuses to take the 2nd nap.
Sh actually handles the long A quite well! ( once she handled 9 hours A time :o)
I don't know if that means she is ready to drop 1 nap.
She used to nap twice and 1- 1.5 hrs each time.

here is her routine

830am wake up

2 hour-2.5 hour A time

1030am or 11am down for 1st nap

1130am or 12pm wake up for lunch ( I have to wake her up or she will nap for 1.5 hours)

2pm should be down for 2nd nap but always fights and refuses to nap

730pm bedtime

any input is appreciated

Hi..I am having the same issue.  My little man is 12 months old...he has always been a textbook/angel baby.  He wakes at 7:30...goes 2.5-3 hours and then takes a 1.5 hour nap.  Wakes...eats...2.5 hours later takes another 1.5 hour nap.  Then..bath and bed at 7:00 and 7:30.  Now..all of the sudden he is not wanting to take a second nap.  He napped for an hour and fifteen minutes and was up until bedtime (7 hours).  HELP!

hi lica & ocdmom,

i'm sure one of the sleep/nap moderators will be able to help more with this but in the meantime i'd suggest reading this: https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=85130.0 - it gives details on the typical amounts of day/night sleep. just as a first thought, lica, seems like your lo is getting lots of night-time sleep (13 hours) and is not sleeping as much during the day as a consequence. also, perhaps both of you could consider extending all your activity periods to 3 hours. could be your bub isn't tired enough to have a nap (?). finally, according to the link above, the transition to 1 nap usually occurs between 12 and 18 months so perhaps your lo's are just a bit advanced ;D

hth!

I actually think your A times need some adjusting. The morning A time you should be able to extend to 3hrs and same for the afternoon A time. If you are attempting the afternoon nap 2hrs after she just woke up then she's just not tired enough. Try pushing the afternoon A time to at least 3 hrs. I would also limit the morning nap to 45mins and then 3-3.25hrs later go for the afternoon nap (which should be 1.5hrs or so) and then bedtime about 3.5-4hrs later

If shortening the morning nap and extending the A time in the afternoon is still not having an effect on the afternoon nap (if she's still fighting it) then I would limit the mornign nap to 30mins. If STILL there is no pm nap, then try for the 1 nap... about 5-5.5hrs after morning wake up time and to be in bed about 5-5.5 hrs after nap wake up time
