Baby won't nap at home
« on: May 09, 2007, 18:23:17 pm »
Hi

Please can anyone help? My daughter is nearly 7 months old and until about 5 months slept OK in the day for 1 hour 3 times a day. Now we struggle to have 1 nap a day at home and that's only for 30mins and after alot of crying. The rest of the day she is pretty grumpy (not surprisingly!) unless we take her out in the pram or car. She has always gone to bed early at about 530pm as she is knackered by then and waking about 6.30-730am. But alot of days fights and fights sleep no matter what we do and end up taking her out in the pram where she will only sleep for 45 mins max and wakes up as soon as we get home.

We have tried rocking, singing, patting, letting her cry for 10 mins, music but nothing seems to work. We would also love her to go to bed later but it seems a vicious circle of lack of sleep in the day has meant early bed time. As the weather has been horrible lately we have had to stay in and this has emphasised the problem.

Please does anyone have any ideas as it is horrible to see her so tired and upset!
Thanks in advance

Anneliese

Hi Anneliese
can you post your usual routine so we can see if something needs tweaking?

Sorry

630am gets into bed with us and has a short nap around 30 mins around 730am
8am Get up, play, bath, get ready
9-930am solids
10am  try to put down downstairs as used to fall asleep. Occasionally manage 30mins
12.30pm solids and 5oz bottle.
1pm try to put down but usually so cranky have to go for a walk falls asleep anytime from now till 2.30 for 30 mins.
3pm solids and 5oz milk
5pm solids
530pm 50z milk bed
1030 5oz milk
630am wake.

Usually in the aftrenoon so desperate for her to sleep we end up walking for hours walking the problem worse but as soon as we get home wide awake so can't be a deep sleep.
Hope that helps.
Thanks Anneliese
