9.5 month old fighting am nap
« on: May 08, 2007, 18:01:51 pm »
Hi, my 9 1/2 month old is fighting her morning nap and winning.   She takes morning naps for a few days then goes 4 days or more without them.  She cries and cries so I bring her down.  Of course, she goes down with minimal crying in the afternoon.

Her schedule:
6-7:  Wake
7:  BF
8:  Solids
9:30:  Attempted nap
11:  BF
12:  Lunch
1:  Nap (1-1.5 hours)
3:  BF
6:  Supper
7:  BF and wind down
7:30:  Sleep

She was waking once a night (around 4) for BF.  Then she had a cold for a couple days and never recovered her sleep routine.  Now she wakes 1-3 times a night.  I try to only feed her two times and go in to check on her the other(s).  This morning she woke at 2:30 and 5ish.  I fed both times to get her back to sleep (in desperation).  During the day she has been on the 3 hour awake time for a month or two.

Am I missing something?  Any thoughts on what to fix?  She recently started crawling and loves finger foods.

well this age seems to be a bit tough for naps. Is she learning a new skill?
All you can try is different times, may be if she has woken at 7am then 9:30 is too early.
could you try 10am nap till11
nap 2-3:30

the NW do seem like overtired from not enough day sleep. if you absolutely can not find a time that she will sleep in the morning, then put her down no later then 12 and hope she sleeps a few hours. if not, then maybe you could sneek a catnap in before dinner, or move bedtime up very early.

This morning she fussed from 5 until 6 when I finally got her up.  Then I kept her up until 9:30 at which point she went down like an angel and slept an hour.  She was quite ready for the afternoon nap also.  I think that my previous 3 hour wake times in the morning were just too short for her.  I'll try to keep wake time at a minimum of 3.5 hours in the morning.
