18 Month Old - Earlier Wakings
« on: May 12, 2007, 08:11:38 am »
Hi - our almost 18 month old has been a good sleeper up until about a week or so ago, and now has been getting up earlier.  She has been teething, so I suspect it is that, but in the past, she gets over it, and its back to normal, within a day or 2, but this seems to be a bit of a habit at the moment.  Currently getting up anytime between 5.50am and 6.20am.  Use to be between 6.30am - 7.00am.  Just not sure of what toddlers sleep patterns are typically like at this age, and whether they change.  Also trying to toilet train her at the moment, so not sure if this is affecting her.

Routine roughly at the moment:
6.10amish - wakes up (lately crying as well, which is a bit abnormal, though not every morning)
6.50am - milk drink
8.20am - breakfast
10.30am - snack/milk
11.45am - lunch
1.00pm  to 3.00pm - sleep (roughly 2 hrs)
3.30pm - milk/snack
5.45pm - dinner
7.00pm  - bath, milk and bed
7.30pm - asleep

Hope this doesn't last!  Anyone have any ideas?

Well usually the pattern is nap after approcx 5.5hrs from the time they wake, nap lasting about 1.5-2hrs and bedtime about 5.5hrs from the time they wake from nap. Total hours is 13; 11at night and 2during the day.

Maybe you should try an earlier nap time for about a week to see if it makes a difference. Could be that she is a little overtired by 1pm, and thats a fairly long stretch even if she used to wake at 6.30am. Try 12.30 nap (the latest) and see if that helps...

Just an update... definitely teething at the moment, but I haven't seen her teeth this badly for a long time.  Was staying over at grandparents over the weekend, and had a meltdown in the car on the way back home, and Ashlee's face was so red! Poor thing, and being overtired from a shortened nap today didn't help.  Will have to try an earlier nap time if she continues.  But really hoping things will go back to some sort of normality once her teeth settle!!!
