my 9mo still wakes three times a night!
« on: May 20, 2007, 02:44:42 am »
OK - I was reading in another section about a mommy who tried diluting bottles to reduce nigh time wakings. She was very successful and I would like to give it a try.
I pump BM and I was wondering if you think that diluting the BM would be OK. Or, should I just go with less amounts of BM and not give him more. I guess I could also try plain water, but I wanted to ease into that. What do ya'll think?
He is able to go to sleep for naps and night sleep on his own and we follow EASY (new to it...) It is just these darn night wakings  that are about to send me over the edge.
I have tried to just soothe him with a dummy and PU and PD, but he will not calm until I give him a bottle. We have certainly created this night feeding hunger.

I would suggest trying to up the amount he eats during the day.  Some moms are successful with the watering down method.  If your child simply needs to feed as a prop then I think the best thing is to cut it out and commit to pu/pd for a week and see where you end up.  I think it's fine to water down breast milk but I would maybe check with a breast feeding mod about that, you could try just giving him a couple ounces of water.  If he does fine with that, then you know for certain that he doesn't need the calories.
Hope that helps
