DF working??
« on: May 22, 2007, 12:15:52 pm »
I've been giving my 2.5 month old son a dreamfeed around 10:30 at night for 5 weeks or so now, and he still continues to wake 1 (or 2) times per night.  Each time he wakes, he drinks as much as I will give him (4-5 oz).  He goes to bed around 7:45 (we tried later, but this is the time that he wants!), and frequently he wants to get up in the 5-6 AM range.  He usually drinks from his bottle around 3, 5:30, and a little more around 7, just to try to fill him up before bath and bed.  When he wakes, I usually wait a few minutes before rushing in and occasionally he'll go back to sleep for a little while.  I go in with the bottle when I hear hard crying/fussiness.  Is his DF too late?  Occasionally I hear him stirring before I go in with him.  At least he typically goes right back to sleep after each night feeding, but I would like to see him sleep more than 3-4 hours at a chunk.  Should we keep doing the DF??

It's normal for a LO that age to wake at least once for a feed during the night, even with a DF. If he's taking as much as you offer at each wake, then he's definitely hungry. How are his feeds during the day? Can you post your daily routine?

I know this isn't what BW recommends, but let me share what worked for me...
My DS would go to bed at around 7:30, then I would WAKE him up at around 10:00 for a feeding.  In fact, I would turn on the lights and make sure he was really awake and took a full feeding (I gave him a bottle then because it was easier to keep him awake and I knew how much he was getting).  Sometimes I would keep him up a little longer after feeding, just quiet time sitting together.  I found it helped to 'tire him out' again and get him ready for a longer sleep through the night.  I read this in another baby book and it really worked for us!
