Wake to Sleep Question
« on: June 13, 2007, 13:55:52 pm »
Hi,
I'm using Wake to Sleep to try to extend DD's naps during the day. At what intervals can you do the WTS?
I try to go in 5 minutes before she wakes up, but sometimes when I come in, she is already waking up herself and ready to cry...so I've been trying to go in about 10 minutes before she wakes up. Is that okay? And then sometimes, I go in 20 minutes after I do WTS, and stir her again. Would that be helping or hindering her in the long run?
Also, how long do you have to do WTS before she doesn't need the help anymore (I think I know the answer: when DD decides, right?)
The thing is, she only needs this help during the day...I find that weird.

Hi Katia,

Here is a link to details on wake to sleep -

https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=64168.0

You want to do it 30 - 60 min before the normal wake time, so doing it 5 or 10 min before is too late. And going in again will not help either, sorry. It will take at least three days of doing the technique properly before it will show results, but it seems most people do it about a week before stopping.

According to the link you supplied, you do go in 5-10 minutes before waking for naps. If I were to go 30-60 minutes back, that would be when I am just putting her down for a nap. Maybe you misunderstood me?
Yesterday I had good success with it, but today she's woken up from her first morning nap after an hour...However, she is isn't crying and screaming, so I'm just letting her hang out in her crib. Now the question is, when do I put her down for her next nap???? :)

I'm sorry, I didn't articulate myself very well  :P  5 - 10 min can be awfully close, so I was thinking try 20 min or so, so maybe 10 min after she falls asleep.

That's good that her nap was an hour  :)  I'd leave her be until it's time to start the next cycle, and then get her up. Try and stick to the routine as closely as possible.

Thanks for the advice!
Yesterday went really well; she took every nap, and for the first time EVER took a two hour nap in the later afternoon.
This morning was good until just now; she woke up again after an hour. However, I am not throwing the towel in --- have to allow room for regression, right?  And maybe I went in too early or too late for WTS, who knows. I'll keep you posted as to how it goes.
