Am I an awful mother?
« on: June 11, 2007, 10:28:37 am »
I am sitting here with a very tired child in his pram who is screaming at me cos he wants a nap but wants to have it with me in my bed. We had got him into napping in his pram but when I got pg with Ziggy and was so exhausted I took him to my bed cos I needed to sleep. That has gone on through this pg too. But I am feeling better now (woohoo) and don't need a nap. So I am trying to get him out the habit of having his nap with me.

But if he is in such a state should I take him to my bed or just persevere with him in his pram? I am talking to him to try and soothe him but it isn't working.

I can't believe I have caused another sleep problem with Shay ::)

{{{{hugs}}}}} Shay.

Why not the crib?

I wouldn't bring him to bed with you, unless you're prepared to continue that for quite a while.  Stick with it...

You are not a bad mother (repeat as necessary  :-* )

I agree try the bed, and avoid putting him into bed with you. There will be a lot of crying, and whining, but it is better, for both of you. Try WI/WO maybe (I did this with Kayla last month) With time and persitence it will get better.

He has gone now. :)

If I try to put him in his crib, he just plays. It takes about 2 hours to get him to go to sleep then he is totally out as he sleeps too late. We've never mastered the art of napping in the crib. Bed time he's fine but through the day, nope!

If we are out he naps fine in his pram, but it's just when we are home, he wants to nap with me ::) I know it's all my fault. I will keep with this one again, he'll get back to it!

Thanks Rachel

Thanks Kimberley,

We tried WI/WO at bed time a while ago and it just winds him up. He gets even worse. Then ends up becoming CIO because of how bad he gets :(

I would love to be able to get him to anp in his cot, I just don't think it will ever happen.

keep at it Faye,  You are not a bad mother.

I think that it will come with consistency.  It took ages for me to get a lo that I care for to nap in the pushchair but I had more success with him in the travel cot, have you tried one of these?
