Why Won't He Play In His Crib Anymore?

DS was sick for 2 days earlier this week (fever due to teething I think).  Anyway, since then he cries hard at bedtime and we have to do wi/wo until he wears himself out and falls asleep.  Then, he wakes in the morning and cries to get up right away.  He used to wake at 6:30/6:45 but play for 30+ minutes in his crib.  Now he wants up RIGHT AWAY when he wakes.  My DH and I both work in the mornings and get ready for work between 6:00 and 7:00 so having him up wanting our attention at that time is difficult. 

Any suggestions what I can do to encourage him to play again?  TIA

Have you tried sneaking in some toys at night so when he wakes he has something to play with? Thats all I can think of

He actually has a bunch of soft toys in there that he plays with a lot.  Maybe I need to get new ones 

Actually, last night he went down quietly  so hopefully it was just some phase (I was very thankful as we had a house full of people and I was afraid he'd protest going to bed...and I didn't want to try to do wi/wo with company around).

I wish!    Still usually 30 mins (some days 20 min) am...been there forever!
