Hi all I have a 4 month old beautiful boy Jakson. We have been on 4hr EASY for a while now which is working really well. There is always a but!
He is a catnapper and recently I have been trying to extend his naps from 50mins-1hr30mins or longer. Once he wakes up I try and resettle him in his cot and sometimes this works and he stays asleep for another sleep cycle. Other times he needs a quick cuddle and then sleeps for another sleep cycle. Other times he just won't settle no matter what I do. Should I get him up and then make him wait for his feed and then not put him back to bed until the next nap time? If I do get him up I find it difficult to keep him awake until the next nap time and also find it hard to make him hold out until the next feed if he is awake 1hr before it is due.
He does stay awake for 1hr45mins or 2hrs before he goes back to bed so longer A time isn't the issue. He settles himself also. I wrap him up and put him in his cot awake and he takes 2-5mins to settle himself. So I am not rocking, patting, swinging or using any props to help him sleep. I don't know what else to do. I have tried W2S and PU/PD with no effect.
Someone suggested to me if I get him up after he wakes up, praise him for going to sleep himself in the first place and then make him stay awake until the next nap time is due and he will stop catnapping. Has anyone tried this and had success?
I have been trying to resettle after the 45mins for a month now with no improvements. Should I just accept he is a catnapper? He is not grizzley if he only sleeps that long. I just don't know how much longer I can deal with the screaming trying to resettle. It has been a long month!
Our usual routine is as follows (most days) All breastfeeds
7am Feed
7.30 Activity
8.45-9am Sleep (usually only 50mins-1hr)
11am Feed
11.30 Activity
12.45-1pm Sleep (usually only 50mins-1hr)
3pm Feed
3.30 Activity
4.30-5pm Catnap (45-50mins)
5.30-6pm Feed
Bath and gentle stimulation
7-7.30 Sleep
10pm Dream Feed
Usually sleeps through until 7am but sometimes wakes at 6am. I try and make him hold out until 7am with some success but more often not. This doesn't seem to disturb the rest of his day though.
Sorry for the long post. Just out of ideas!
Thanks in advance
Shannon and Jakson
