10 month old with separation anxiety

My 10 month old has suddenly decided he will not go to sleep for anyone but me. He will go to sleep if I stand by the crib but will scream if I try to leave before he has fallen completely asleep. Sometimes I have to stay in there for an hour, this is very difficult as i have a 3 year old daughter as well. The other night we left our children with my sister, who has watched them many times. My son screamed any time she tried to put him to sleep, we ended up having to come home half way through the movie. As soon as he saw me he laid down and went to sleep. How do I get him to fall asleep on his own, without having to stand by his crib until he is completely asleep?

I experienced this too with my DS around the same age so firstly (((hugs))) it is hard but we did find that using Walk in/walk out (WI/WO) helpful ... here's a link that explains it and some other useful tips.

I did WI/WO at bedtime (that was our main problem not really naps) and each night the WI/WO got less time-wise and after a week it disappeared.  It did resurface a bit on and off but at least using WI/WO your DS will have the reassurance that you will return when he needs you and that you leave when he calms and will get use to the WI/WO.  With us the SA returned a bit when he started day care 2 days a week or when sick or teething, I guess he needed the extra reassurance that I was still there.
