14 m wont eat, self induce vomit
« on: July 19, 2007, 20:32:45 pm »
Need lots of help, 14 months old, will not eat.  Can get a few bites into him by distracting him with whatever.  He is off any of the growth charts, weighing only 17 pounds.  If he is really in a mood not to eat, will self induce vomit, by sticking his fingers in his mouth.  Some days can get him to drink partial bottle of formula.  Has anyone else ever heard of this?  Any tips?

Sorry I couldn't read and not post. I wish I had some helpful to say.
I would be contacting your paediatrician and asking for a referral to a nutritionalist and get some professional support. (Sorry if that's really obvious and you've already done that but that's all I can say).

Good Luck.

I would actually request an eval with a feeding therapist. This is usually done by a speech or occupational therapist in a pediatric outpatient center (at least in the US). They are trained to assess your son's overall feeding skills, his oral motor skills, his swallowing, and any sensory issues that may be impacting his eating.

I would also look into any medical reasons for the lack of appetite (possibly a referral to a gastrointestinal doctor), as this does sound pretty extreme. HTH
