should i wake up my baby?? (timely!)
« on: July 25, 2007, 17:50:17 pm »
Five week old ds has been sleeping since mid afternoon. it is now nine, and it seems he's asleep for the night. he's been waking early as is. usually goes to sleep at night around 7 or 8, (not 5, like today.)

should i wake him, feed, bathe, and put to bed? will that help him sleep normal in the morning?
or do i just let him sleep, since that seems to be what he's interested in doing right now?

thanks

Just going by my instincts - I'd say wake him when he next seems to be going in a lighter phase of sleep (movements, eye movements). And do a feed and a change. Not bother with the bath - perhaps a top and tail.
And then resettle for bed. I'd probably have done it a little earlier though so if it's now 9 you may just want to let it go. Actually I'd probably still do it. But you are likely to have a very early start :-\  (or a block of wakefulness during the night).

Good Luck.

JMO - I'm sure you'll have the exact opposite view in the next post :)

hi
thanks. i agree wtih you, but somehow didn't get notified in my email that you responded.
i had to step out to a neighbor, and he woke up himself at around ten. may have just wanted to nurse and go back to sleep, but he had to wake up more, since dh held him a bit til i came back. so he was wide awake and we nursed, bathed, nursed again and went to bed.
slept a bit later in the morning than the past few days! go figure!
