5 WEEK OLD NOT JOINING IN WITH EASY!
« on: August 07, 2007, 16:59:46 pm »
During the day my son pretty much sticks to the routine 3 hour stints.
At night from around 8pm-11pm he does not! He wants to be awake, fusses in the cot and roots for food - can anyone help or suggest a routine for this type of touch baby?
Thanks

Hi there LizzieC

Firstly, please bear in mind that your lo is still very young, and not many mums are able to implemement EASY fully until their babe is around 3 months.  There is obviously a period of adjustment once your baby is born.  They do not know what they are "supposed" to do and need gentle guidance and steering in the right direction.

You can try to follow EASY quite loosely at this age, but bear in mind that your lo will probably not comply for a good while. Remember that the idea is for the routine to be flexible, and the fact you are getting consistent 3 hourly feeds is fantastic. The rest will start to fall more into place as your lo gets older and around 3 months, you should be able to see a rough pattern for him, and then you will be able to make it more structured.

I hope that helps you a little.

Also when your baby is rooting, are you sure it is hunger. Young babies have an inbuilt "need" to suck, so that may be what he is rooting for, rather than true hunger.  In this case a dummy is always well worth a try   :)

I think it's also quite normal that a lot of babies have a fussy period, usually in the evening when we could do with a little relaxation time  :)

Hi :)

My first LO was like this at first - only it was 9-midnight ::) DH used to stay up with her until she was ready for bed, as he did late nights better than I. Just keep implementing everything through the day with a deliberate start of 7 or 730 and he will eventually get the idea - I found that having a nice long wind down before bedtime helped.

Stick with it, but mostly, enjoy him :)
