6 month old - getting rid of 3.00am feed?
« on: August 08, 2007, 23:05:09 pm »
Hi,

We have a just turned 6 month old who we would like to be sleeping through the night!! From the age of 8 weeks until 3 months she slept 12 hours a night - we were so smug.......! But since then, she has been waking at 3.ooam for a feed. We have been dreamfeeding her for the last month and this has seemed to make no difference. In fact, she is waking for her dreamfeed! Our Maternal health nurse said that she should be sleeping through and had just got into the habit of feeding - which I think could be true, although she has a full feed at 3.00 am and will cry if she doesn't get enough. How should we handle this? Carry on feeding? Drop dreamfeed? Do shush/patting? - any ideas more then welcome.

Thanks

Very Tired Mum

Are you breastfeeding or bottle feeding?

Many, many, many babies are not sleeping through the night at 6 months.  I'll be right back with a link.

Proud to have breastfed for a combined total of 35 months

My lo didn't sleep through until almost 7 months. All lo's are so different and some can handle 12 hours with out food from really early on while others still need a feed until almost 12 months of age, especially bf babies.  It all depends on your lo.  :)

My lo had dropped the dream feed around 10/12 weeks but kept the 3/4 am feed because it worked better for us.  Just before turning 6 mos. she added a feeding back at that dream feed time, we are still struggling with it.  Now it seems like she is eating less at the 3/4 am feeding and we are going to start gradually reducing her minutes.
