How old is he? Could you tell me what his day looks like ... what time are you attempting naps? how long, etc...

His 11 weeks old, its hard to post my routine because its gone out the window, at night he goes down at between 7.30 and 8.30 and will sleep till between 4-5.30 when he has his bottle and goes back down till 8.30-9ish? Then he has his bottle, this morning he woke at 9 so he had his bottle and by about 10.15 i could see he was getting fed up and tired so i took him upstairs and just lay him on my bed to wind down, he started to drift off but then woke himself up, i tried to get him back to sleep but he wouldnt have it, i took him into his room and sat with him, he drifted off so i layed him down, woke up 10 mins later and was really crying, picked him up and he calmed down but there was no sign of falling asleep this time, everytime i layed him down he would start crying........ now its 1.30 and when i brought him down earlier he fell asleep in his pram for about 30mins but thats it, he had his bottle at 12.30 and is still awake, his not even crying though, surely he needs more than these little cat naps?

If i ever do mange to get him to sleep, in a proper sleep, i know he will sleep forever!

To start with, I would wake him up in the morning at the same time to set his internal clock. He is doing 12+hrs at night & this in itself could be affecting his ability to sleep well during the day. So aim at 11hrs at night & then work on naps.

Here are some sample EASY routines for los of your age - https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=10384.0

Also do the windown about 15mins before his A time is up (so for his age the morning A time is about 1hr15mins... so start the wind down about 1hr after he wakes). Then place him in the cot & start shh/pat if he's not settling. It could be that by the time you are doing the windown, he is already overtired (babies that young show tired signs when they are already DONE & want to sleep) so often you have to start the wind down before they start yawning cause they can get from tired to overtired in a matter of 5mins.

I would start with the morning wake up hour & not let him have these GREAT nights he is doing.
