22 mo. old pooping before nap (and not telling me!!!)
« on: August 13, 2007, 00:16:39 am »
My DD has recently started having a big poop right before she goes to sleep at naptime. In the past if she did this, she would fuss or cry to let me know something was up so I could go in and change her before nap. Now she is completely silent in there (I can't even hear her moving around on the monitor or anything).  I know she's been doing it beforehand and not upon waking because I've had to wake her from nap and found her with a poopy diaper  :(  She doesn't do this everyday, but it has been happening more frequently lately. I've tried giving her lots of fruit and juice with breakfast, avoiding fruit for lunch, etc. but this hasn't been working. Somehow she is on this new "schedule" and I'm really concerned she'll end up with a bladder infection (the mess is EVERYWHERE in her diaper... sorry if TMI). Do infections like that usually happen that quickly? I can't believe sleeping like that would be comfortable either, and I can't imagine why she wouldn't fuss or let me know as I have always gone in to her right away in the past. Any suggestions? Thanks  :)
Jenny

What about putting her in nappy & in the cot & then check on her 10mins later to change her nappy?

How soon after lunch does she nap? I give my girls lunch at least 30mins before nap to give them enough time to poop. Jasmine's BM's are right before nap as well whereas Isabella is more towards the end of the day before bedtime.

Thanks for replying. I've thought about going in after a few minutes to check, but since this whole issue started, she has been falling asleep very quickly (whether she's pooped or not!) whereas a couple weeks ago she would talk for a while before going to sleep. Nothing has changed in her schedule and she doesn't seem more tired before nap, but she does go through talking/not talking phases every once in a while. She's always been the kind of sleeper where if her nap gets interrupted, that's it, no matter whether it's been 10 min. or an hour  :-\   This has happened a few times recently when storms knocked our power out during nap which turns off her fan  >:( I will definitely do this (go in after 10 min. or so) as long as she is talking, but otherwise I'd be too afraid to wake her up, especially if it turns out she hasn't pooped.

After her lunch, we usually go straight into her room for stories and wind-down, usually about 15-20 min. or so. That's a good suggestion to give her some time after lunch and before nap to clear things up  :) Thanks --- I'll try that!
