Feeding at 11/11:30 and 5:30/6:00 AM... then what?
« on: August 11, 2007, 15:13:26 pm »
HI everyone,
My 11 week old BFs at 11:00/11:30pm and again at 5:30/6:00AM....He nurses and goes back to sleep.  At 7:00 and 7:30 I try to give him more boobie but he is never interested. (We start our day at 7am) Technically, the next feed for him is at 9:00/9:30am... when he is napping...
If you last fed at 5:30/6:00am... what would you do next to keep things on the 3.5hr routine routine?

If you want your day to start at 7am and he wakes at around 5:30 for an early morning feed then just give him less at that time....lessen the minutes you BF so that he gets a full feed at 7am.  When ever you start you day, you want the feed at that time to be nice and big to get him through until the next feed at 10:30 or so.

In theory I think that sounds great... ;D and is probably the only option. I have found, however, that when he is really hungry he wants to fill up, KWIM? If I was only trying to get him to hold off and hour or so, he would need to take an ounce... being that I BF, I don't know how many minutes he needs to get that small amount. I have been trying to get rid of the 3am feed (1 ounce boobie milk with 1 ounce of water in a bottle) and that is getting us through until 5:30/6:00. When he would take a feed at 3am, he didn't feed well at all at 7am - hence me trying to drop the 3am feed. I still find that he doesn't feed all that well during the day - I guess it is time to move towards the 4hr routine!
