will only take bottle from me- 7.5 month old
« on: August 23, 2007, 12:16:55 pm »
What is going on?  Charlie will only take a bottle from me!  It's a battle to begin with.  We're going to the doctor today to rule out a sore throat, but I'm not sure what else to do.  Dh tried feeding him last night, no luck.  My mom and mil tried too.

Any suggestions?  I'm super frustrated because I feel like I can't leave him with anyone because he won't drink his bottle.  This has been going on for 2 weeks.

Thanks!

Hugs,

A lot of lo's tend to go through phases like this - it is very normal.  I would just let your DH persever with a particular feed, so that your lo gets used to other people feeding him.

You say that you are battling to feed yoru lo too.  What size teat are you using?  Do you think he could be bored with the flow and want a faster flow teat?

Could your DS possibly be teething, and this is why he is not taking a bottle very well?

I have this problem too - I am BF but wanted Katie to take a bottle in case I ever needed to be out / away / was ill / whatever. It took me 5 months of perseverence to get her to take a bottle of EBM - she now glugs it down from me - but those little lips remain glued together accompanied by lots of tears if DH or my parents try  ::) ::)  [so all that perseverence for nothing!!]

However what we have found works is that Katie is getting to quite like her sippy cup, so when I had to go to hospital a week or so ago, DH gave her EBM in a sippy cup and she did fine... probably not a full feed but enough to see her through for a few hours.  So might be worth a try if your LO will take it from a cup?

Jeremy used to have bad feeds altogether sometimes - didn't matter who was feeding him we just found him to be a really hard feed sometimes.  My middle was the same way and what we have done with both of them is put them in their carseat or lay them on a pillow on the couch beside us while helping them with their bottle.  At 7 1/2 months he should be able to hold his own bottle too so he may just laze back and do it himself.  We also give Jeremy his blankie to snuggle with while he's in the carseat and he spends the whole time eating, dozing and rubbing his blanket on his face.  Anyhow - hope things improve for you.  Take care!
