Thanks! I just asked my sis this last night. She is an early education teacher. She said since he is 1 1/2, he only has attention span for 1 1/2 mins.  So to do the same thing you all suggested. Taking short stories, board books with little or no words & pointing out the pictures etc.  I just thought that since he was approaching 2 he would show more interest, but I'll keep working at it.

Has anyone mentioned the Hairly MacClary series yet? They are really good for introducing rhyme and great fun to read aloud. After a few reads, you can leave off the last word or words from each line and have your child say them instead. Lynley Dodd is the author.

anything and everything
mr men and pooh bear faves to listen to
that's not my..... for her to read to me
the Usborne Phonics Books like Frog on a Log and Cat on a Mat etc
fifi, noddy, roary, dora, diego (any TV character whether she's ever watched it or not) episode in a book - they take 20mins or so to read and she loves them
counting books like one hippo all alone, or one buzzy bee with winnie the pooh
the books with the story on one side and a jigsaw to do on the other, perfect
tiny little hand held books to be read to dolls and soft toys and visiting babies

think that's enough for now.

oh no, one last sort - those ones which have a CD with them to tell the child when to turn the page, they're great for giving her the independence of really feeling like she's reading.

Repetition and rhyme are good for younger readers and I love Julia Donaldsons Room on the Broom and the Gruffalo.

Havent read thread but all and any books here. Last year at 2 was the Gruffalo and the Gruffalos child, excellent books I enjoyed them myself. At the moment the old ladybird books are going down very well, 2 current favourites are the magic porridge pot and the enormous turnip. While I love all the new fab books that are available now it gives me great pleasure to read the books I read when I was a child and will start to buy a few more.

Some of the books we have for our little one are:

- Goodnight Moon
- Pat the Bunny
- Goodnight, Thumper (Disney rabbit one)

I'd really love to get some books written by Robert Munsch (examples: Mortimer, I Love You Forever)
