Is it my computer or the site?
« on: August 28, 2007, 04:59:23 am »
Every time I want to reply to a post or a pm I get a pop up saying the following"

iexplore.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x771cb800" referenced memory at "0x40b5c72c". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

OK      Cancel

I can still post but then everything is soooo slow & if I click on cancel or the X at the top of this pop-up box the whole page will close...

Its really bugging me... do I have a virus (well not me but the computer?)

Layla :)

There are various reasons why this could occur, so it's likely going to be a process of elimination to get it fixed, it could be a corrupt ActiveX control or an installed toolbar etc.  Firstly, make sure your version of IE is the latest, if not then update it.  Secondly scan for viruses, spyware/adware and clean out any infections.  Thirdly, remove any toolbars you may have installed such as Google or Yahoo toolbars.  If you are using IE7 then you can Manage Add-Ons to do this.  Clear out your cookies and temporary internet files, close your browser, re-open it and the log into the site again to see if the problem persists

Personally I recommend the use of Mozilla Firefox, it's a better browser with fewer problems than IE :)

Hey Gareth.. well after deleting cookies & internet files as well as doing a scan & a number of other things you told me to do... the problem was still occurring ::). Talked to dh & apparently our version is not the latest & when I told him you suggested a new browser...  he said "why not... whatever works for BW & doesn't get you ed" (cause I would not stop about how annoying that pop up was ::)). So this morning I downloaded  Mozilla Firefox & the problem is fixed!!! ;D ;D ;D

Just want to say thank you!!! You're the best!!! :)

Smart hubby you got there!!!!!!!!
When you're soaring through the air, I'll be your solid ground.  Take every chance you dare.  I'll still be there when you come back down.

Glad it worked for you :) :)

If you want to investigate your IE error, then there's some research to be done from the MSDN Forums.  There is a lot to read through though.
