16 months...short nap, help??
« on: August 28, 2007, 21:51:52 pm »
Hi there, my ds is 16 months, sleeps thru the night most nights...10 hrs usually, but his afternoon nap is getting worse. He almost always wakes 1 hr 15 minutes into the nap, usually I can go in and lay him back down and no problem, but for over a week now I can't get him back to sleep. He is very cranky as a result and now is also starting to wake earlier in the mornings also!

wake 7-730
nap somewhere around 1230 to 130
sleep anywhere from 8 to 930ish depending on his nap.

He is teething but will still wake even when not...so I know this is habitual waking...tried wts, nope.....

any ideas?

Thanks....

Hi,

It sounds like he may be overtired which is causing him to wake early from his nap. I would try to have him down for his nap by 12:30 at the latest, then move bedtime earlier, to 7:30 or so. If he's waking up earlier than 7 in the morning, I would move nap even earlier (so if he wakes at 6:30, do nap at 12). I think most los at this age are doing 5.5 or so hours of A time before a sleep. Hopefully you'll start seeing some later wakeups in the morning and he'll also start sleeping more than 10 hrs. at night (I think the avg. at this age is 11.5 hrs.). HTH  :)
