« on: September 02, 2007, 14:16:57 pm »
could this be an allergic reaction? and what other symptoms would accompany?  i never had any allergic reactions with DD1 so this is all new to me.

This could be an allergic reaction. Have you changed formula if bottle fed or eaten something different if breast fed. Have you introduced any new foodsto your childs diet if you have started solids(not sure what age your lo is). If you give us some more information likeany changes that have happened around the same time then we will be able tooffer more help.

er.... yes to most of the above. she has just started on follow-on formula.  She is six months old so now having three meals a day.  i am introducing new foods one by one, but as i never had allergies with DD1 i just presumed that DD2 would be fine.  She really didnt seem to like peas, so i didnt offer that again, but im not sure if it was the taste/texture or if it was something that made her feel uncomfortable. other than that i guess they sometimes scrunch their faces up when trying new foods, but would a food that caused a reaction be instantly recognisable? or would it take a day or two. What i mean is, if DD2 makes a face, should i just put that down to disliking the food, or could it be a reaction like an allergy?

It is possible that the follow on milk has something in it that is causing a reaction. I know a lot of the foods that James did not want to eat as a baby turned out to be things that he was allergic to. This does not mean to say this is the case with your daughter though she may just not like the taste or texture. As your daughter is only 6 months and will still be getting all her nutrients from formula then I would be tempted to go back to the beginning and trial each food for a couple of weeks and also keep a strict food diary. This way you may be able to pinpoint it as reactions do not always happen instantly, also some children are ok with a small amount of a food but not if it is given a few days on the run. Like I said at the beginning of the post it could also be the change of formula and if yu are reluctant to go back to basics then you could change back to regular formula first as this is easy to do and I know our hv says that it is fine nutritionally for a baby till 12 months.
