big boy bed question
« on: September 08, 2007, 19:57:25 pm »
what do i do if my bub gets out of his bed and is playing quietly in his room? Do I intervene or just leave him alone? We started the big boy bed/converterd crib last night and now we are doing our first nap right now.

I would leave him. If he is coming out of the room you can guide him back & explain that its quiet time & if he wants to fall asleep he will. The novelty of getting out will wear out. Even if he falls asleep on the floor, I would leave him. Consider his room now his one big bed. Just make sure things are baby proofed  :)

Good luck
Layla

I just left T.  It was funny I would check on him, and he would be asleep on his floor laying on top of books.  One time he was sitting up against his wall sleeping.  It wore off, and he started staying in his bed.

Oh my goodness Gage's Mom, where have you been? Haven't seen you around in MONTHS!!!  :-*

We just did the bed transition a couple of weeks ago, and I second the idea to just leave him. If you don't make a big deal out of it neither will he, and the novelty will be gone pretty quick.

Hi Colin Mac's mom! How are you? It has been awhile since I have talked to you guys! I forgot how reassuring and fun it was. I have just been busy at work and trying for a second baby.

I am having problems with Gage and his big boy bed. He WAS a perfect sleeper (which took A LOT of work) and now things are heading south. His naps are getting shorter, he is waking in the middle of the night, he cries a bit when he is laid down and right now he is farting around in his room and in the hallway. I just kept putting him back in bed with the hope that the consistency will get him back on track. I am not sure what else to do. Maybe I need to tweak his schedule a bit, but everything started getting wonky when we introduced to the bed. I am pretty sure this change is the cause of inconsistent sleep.

We're fine around here, not much is new really. Congratulations on TTCing!

Do you think maybe Gage isn't ready for the BBB?  :-\   It seems like the disruptions stop after a few days for most people when they switch. At least from the posts I've read around here! But maybe it is a routine thing - what are you currently doing?

I am not sure he is totally ready for it. It was kind of last minute decision as he kept climbing and falling out of his crib one night ( which he had only done one other time before). He was WAAAAAY overtired and didn't want to go to bed. We had actually planned to make the switch the following week, but he kind of decided for us on his birthday nonetheless.

We are doing the same wind down except without putting on the sleeping bag. It is kind of hit and miss. Some naps and bedtime are fine just a little short and others are bit more challanging but not terrible. I am just afraid that all of my hard work will eventually go down the drain if I don't figure out what is going on. It seems like he is not tired tonight, which is kind of weird. His first A time is 5-5.5 hrs then 1 hr 40 min nap (usually 2hrs) and then 5.5 hrs before bed, which I think is pretty typical of his age (has been fine until the change of the bed).

Colin and Gage are pretty close in age, and in the last couple weeks I've been finding that he can handle longer A time, like 6 hours or more even. Maybe Gage is really just not tired enough?

Hi Jessica. Well, Gage woke up at 6am today (I think he is getting cold) :o :o. So we are going to have to stretch him a bit to get him in bed at a decent hour. I will test the 6hr A time tonight. We'll see what happens.

Funny you mention that, because Colin has woken at 6 or just after for the last three mornings  :o  :o

It has gotten progressively worse, and I am not sure what the problem is. We are in the midst of a terrible overtired cycle because he takes 2 hrs to finally fall asleep. He plays around in his room and attempts to come out. We just pick him up (when he leaves his room) and put him back, and then he cries. I am going to try to increase his A time because when he is tired (from not getting enough rest) then he goes to bed fine. I have no idea what is going on!

How are you guys doing?

???  Wow. 2 hours?! Do you think maybe he's not tired enough at bedtime and hence the longer A time?

We're ok over here.  :)  At least for now!
