3Mth old doesn't like ssh/pat anymore???
« on: September 09, 2007, 06:03:30 am »
My 3.5 month old has been doing really well on ssh/pat for the last 3 weeks. He still cant fall asleep unaided but things are much calmer around bedtime. As we speak he is having his first ever 1.5 hour nap !!! Maybe we have turned a corner... will keep my fingers crossed. The only problem I am having is that when we go to put him down to sleep now he seems to dislike ssh/pat? I have had to resort to picking him up and holding him until he is really sleepy and then gently putting him down. He isn't fully asleep but will then let me help with ssh/pat. Is this getting back to AP? Should I start doing PU/PD more now that he is nearly 4 months?

Hi,

I am sure you will get some great advice from the moderators here, but this happened to me as well with my little girl who would have been around the same age (she is 4 months now).
We found that if we put her in her cot, kissed her on her head and walked out of her room she would get herself to sleep by sucking her fingers/mantra crying!
It seemed like she was trying to tell us that she was ready to give it a go on her own and did not want us there doing shh/pat anymore! It used to take us anything up to 20 mins to soothe her to sleep but when she did it on her own it took less than 5 mins!!  8)
Also, last night for the first time ever, we put her in her cot, kissed her, walked out (we stand and look through the crack in her doorway  ;)) and she played with her fingers then shut her eyes and went to sleep - no whinging or anything!

It sounds like you are doing great - well done for the 1.5hr nap too!

Take care,
Cass  :-*
