Milk or Solids
« on: September 12, 2007, 01:31:03 am »
My lo one is 9 months today.  We have been doind solids for a while.  She has never really just liked them but I keep her consistent with them giving them to her on a daily basis.  Sometimes she eats them others she doesn't...I just want to keep them in front of her daily.

My question is should I now being trying solids before the milk or milk and then solids?

Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

What are you doing now??

I found that giving my boys water 1/2 hour - 15 minutes before meals prevented thirst getting in the way of solids.  Then I would only offer milk toward the end of solids to help wash things down and encourage a few more bites.

I have tried a little of both. Solids before bf and solids after bf.  I can't seem to see a difference either way.

If there is no difference I would do solids before BF b/c at nine months your LO needs to learn how to eat junkier foods.  I always look at it like this, we are training your Laos to eat foods well so when their 1 b-day arrives they are eating mostly everything off the table, with the rest of the family.  This encourages healthy eating habits, and is a way to get some awesome family time.

I have always loved dinner time for the opportunity to connect with everyone and find out how their day was.  For me all through my early childhood and teens this was my favorite time of the day and I plan to pass this down to my boys.

I don't think the amount of food that your LO eats is to important at this point b/c she is still BF.  Learning about textures and taste are the two most important thing about eating at this age.
