help with naps & bedtime
« on: September 13, 2007, 22:15:45 pm »
I just picked up the baby whisperer the other day and am already so hooked on making this work for my family!
My daughter is 4.5mos old and the only way I can get her to sleep is for her to nurse. I need help as I would love to teach her to self sooth and would love to break this habbit soon - thank you!

Hi there, the first thing I would say is that if you are brand new to EASY then I would get your routine established first off. But if you like it is entirely possible to do both at the same time.

I would say the first step in getting your LO  to settle is to have a good wind down routine

here are some suggestions

You mention that you nurse to sleep, once your EASY is established your LO will eat first so you will know for sure at nap times that your daughter isn't hungry.

You can then start getting your LO to fall asleep in her crib. As she is over 4. months you can use PU/PD to get her to sleep.

Consistency will be the key here, if you are as consistent with the new as you were with the old this will all become the norm for her.

Let us know if there is anything we can do to help

I just want to add to not get discouraged.  My son is also 4.5 months, and it took him a good 4 days to really see results.  In the beginning you might start to think, because I know I did, "this is a load of crap."  But hang with it.  Yesterday for the first time he slept for 2 hours in the morning, and went down easily pretty much all day.  Bedtime is still being a work in progress, but that's also becuase we're tweaking his bedtime a bit too.  Just hang in there.
