What should I do? 2 feeds missed today!
« on: September 24, 2007, 10:02:09 am »
Could anyone help me ?
My LO has refuesed the breast at his 7am feed and then drANK for 3 minutes at his 10.30 feed. He is napping now. Should I give him ebm if he doesn't eat this afternoon? I know hwe will drink from the bottle no worries. What would you do? Has anyonje been in this situation?
He is not crying from hunger....in fact he seems fine but I don't want him making up for it tonight!

Any help would be great. Thanks
Michelle

What kind of behaviour are you seeing at the breast? Complete refusal to latch on?
Any signs of teething? Or does he seem at all unwell?

I would pump now while he's asleep to keep your supply up.

Then maybe offer ebm if he doesn't feed well again...but keep pumping. Keep an eye on wet nappies. Have some skin-to-skin time if you can.

Hope it sorts soon.

Today was almopest complete refusal. Doesn't seem unwell besides signs of reflux that we have already discussed. Dribbling a bit but no other signs.
Thanks Emma will keep you posted.

Emma...he just had a feed. Not what I would call a big one but good enough. Little wonder since he must be quite hungry by now! Will keep pumping and see haow the afternoon goes.
Thanks again
Michelle

Michelle, when my lo's reflux was at its worst, I would firts try to nurse, and if that didn't go well, then I'd offer her bottles of EBM if she'd take it and just pump after to maintain supply.  You do what you have to do to get through it.  {{{HUGS}}}

yesterday afternoon was ok...he ate reasonably. Took df then 4.30am ate, then this morning for a few minutes. I expected him to wake all night to make up for the feeds but he didn't. It must mean he had enough yesterday after all.
Will post again after doctor tomorrow.

Well we went to the PEAD yesterday....what an ordeal. He slept in the pram on the way then cried the entire 2 hours we were there. The doctor said he has a stomach virus and the slily spit up was a sign as was a slimy greenish stool that he did while we were there (as well as urinating all over me because he was in such a state) :(

Anyway, we talked about reflux and the doctor didn't seem too concerned about it. He focused in on the virus problem, told me it wasn't normal for a LO to cry soooo much and it should be better in a day or so. He told me to give Mycloin drops and if he won't stop crying....a sepository (sp?). Theysaid his cries were cries of pain because his tummy was hurting so much but I am not sure how much of it was an aversion to being at the doctors!
Anyway, that would explaing the eating strike as he needs food but it is uncomfortable and hurts. There have been a few good feeds over the last few days though.
The best news: he is 5810g and has put on 300g in 2 weeks! That is enough to set my mind at rest.

I am not goinjg to give up on the reflux thing though....if it worsens...I will be back wanting more explanations at the doctors.
Let's see.

Hi Michelle,
Thought I'd come find you here to give you some support. Hope things went better yesterday after the Dr. Did you get a better sleep last night? Keep your chin up, you're nearly there. You're doing a great job xxxx

He's growing so well....give him a cuddle from me before he gets too big. Going to have to start feedling Leo some more before Ben catches up!!
